Lecture on Public Health Economics

Global Change Programme of Jadavpur University (GCP-JU) is organising a lecture session with Prof. Koustuv Dalal, Director, Centre for Injury Prevention and Safety Promotion on 27th July, 2016 (Wednesday) from 2.30 PM to 3:30 PM at the office of Global Change Programme, First Floor, Biren Roy Research Laboratory, Jadavpur University.

He will speak on "Public Health Economics”.

Professor Koustuv Dalal (MSc, PhD) is the Director of the Centre for Injury Prevention and Safety Promotion (CIPSP). Koustuv is a senior Health Economist at the School of Health and Medical Science/Orebro University; Centre for Medical Technology Assessment/ Linkoping University and Karolinska Institutet, Sweden.

As course-in-charge and visiting faculty, Koustuv has been teaching Health economics, Injury prevention and other public health issues for more than 15 years at Bachelor, Master and PhD courses and in several international workshops. So far, he has supervised 10 PhD students and more than 50 C & D level theses. Koustuv has led more than 40 research projects around the world and has many national and international assignments as advisor/ committee member. He has developed many academic graduate and post-graduate programs in various universities.

Koustuv has developed a cost model as a very important part of health economic evaluation and won the ‘Best Scientific Paper Award’ from WHO event. He has been appointed as the expert for the Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study (GBD Study) a joint venture by the World Bank, WHO and the Harvard University. Koustuv is also a renowned expert of injury prevention and safety promotion and travelled 48 countries for injury prevention activities, policy advocacy, advice and evaluation including health economic evaluation.

Koustuv is Academic Editor –PLOS ONE and in the editorial board of some famous scientific journals. He is evaluator of several scientific research councils in many countries. Currently he is working as the senior advisor of WHO CCCSP/ International Safe Communities program and as the Editor-in-chief of the Safe Community Bulletin. Koustuv is also the Chair of ‘International Safe Hospital Network’.
